2020/30 the most popular commitment for countries and companies to deliver on the electric vehicle promise. Based on a random and unscientific selection of headlines. • India: every vehicle sold to be powered by electricity by 2030. • Norway: every vehicle sold to be powered by electricity by 2030. • UK: banning the sale of all new diesel and petrol cars by 2040 • France: to outlaw the sale of all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040 • Uber: London drivers must use hybrid or fully electric cars from 2020 • VW: to Build Electric Versions of All 300 Models by 2030 • Volvo: will only offer electric or hybrid vehicles by 2019 • Kia, Hyundai: planning 31 eco-friendly models by 2020 • Toyota: to sell only hybrid and hydrogen vehicles by 2050 • Not ignoring Tesla that started at 100% electric of course… Less random are predictions from IMF & Georgetown University research that predicts more than 90% of all passenger vehicles in the U.S., Canada, Europe and other rich countries could be electric by 2040. Bloomberg NEF recently estimated that the EV market share in 2040 could be 54 percent. While not without it challenges, combine the above with self-driving & vehicle sharing the near future looks very exciting.
